Yeah, I've got nothing on these two days. After 20 days cooped up in a crowded mini-van, sleeping in crowded hotel rooms, having to load and unload almost every single night, we were all ready to just get home. Unfortunately the worst part of the drive was last, and that was driving through the vast, boring expanse that is Texas. No state has any business being that big! Seriously.

Not that getting home was much better. I had approximately 2847.5 loads of laundry to do, a dirty and stale house, Christmas paraphernalia still left up, 4 suitcases to unpack, 5 class preps to get done, and I was still sick. Uhg. Should I be ashamed to admit that it's been almost a month since we've gotten back and a.) I still haven't unpacked my cosmetics case yet, and b.) I'm just now getting this post up? Either one is a little embarrassing.

But in the end, it was all worth it. Child got to see and experience more of America than many adults ever get to, I got a few major things crossed off my bucket list, and most importantly we got to spend it all together as a family. I treasure these younger years with Child because I fear someday he's not going to want anything to do with dear old Mom and Dad. Sure, traveling with a 5 year old can be rough sometimes, but I still think it's a good age. He's old enough that he entertained himself on long drives (though I think he watched Polar Express about 40 times too many), he could cope well with the constant motion of new hotel rooms each night better than I could, and best of all he still had the innocent wonder of a young child. Everything was new and interesting to him, and he looked to us to help him explore it all. Sometimes it takes seeing things through the filter of a 5 year old to really appreciate the world, you know?

  1. Wow, what a long journey! I think you are right to spend precious family time together, as you say they grow up soon, as I am finding over here!!!
I love the pop of colour over the deer jumper, really nice. Hope you had a safe journey home. x
