This was also a "first day of class" outfit. Since I teach classes either on Monday/Wednesdays or Tuesday/Thursdays I got to feature two fancy-shmancy
outfits to scare the students into doing well that first week (j/k about the scaring students part--a little).

This whole suit was found on eBay over the span of 6 months. I found the skirt first, and was quite happy with it. Love the color and texture. So imagine my delight when a few months down the road I found the jacket as well--and in my size too. It was just meant to be. I was able to piece together the whole thing for under $50! Not bad, eh? I guess it goes to show, good things come to those who can wait.

Anyway, the color of the suit is a little spring/summery so I tried to Autumn-ize it by adding some rich caramel and brown tones. I'm hoping I pulled it off successfully. Plus, I wanted another excuse to use my new Talbots Frame bag. I only have a few matched suit sets, and I don't wear them nearly as often as I probably should. I think I'm still getting over the remnants of the very casual dressing of my 20's. Suits are not necessary at the college I teach at, and sometimes I feel a little funny dressing to the 9's when no one else is. I always then get the standard, "Is there something going on today? What are you so dressed up for?" questions. Bah.

To Do: Wear more suits, and stares from others-- be damned!

  1. That's a beautiful suit and you look great! As for other people commenting, they just wish they had your clothes and your style, haha. I think dressing nice is a sign of respect for the occasion and the people around you.

  3. This suit is adorable! I love the color of it, and what a great deal! Shopping on ebay is great, but I typically don't have the patience to keep looking for things :-)

  4. dinster- Thanks! I agree about the respect thing. I think many people dress far too casually at work and it doesn't reflect well on work ethic. I understand wanting comfort, but a suit can be very comfortable if it fits right.

Bourbon&Pearls- Thanks so much! It is quite and enjoyable job :) I don't think I'd trade it for anything.

Jennifer- Thanks! Shopping on eBay does take some effort. I actually check my eBay searches several times a day. But it gets easy to know what to look for after a while, and for me at least, it's paid off big time with some 'old school' J Crew gems.

  5. I always try to pick out a really good outfit for the first day too. It sets the tone for the year and gives them the impression that I'm not messing around if I dress the part. Love the color! And the stripes are perfect!

  6. Jenn- Thanks! Nice to hear I'm not the only one who likes to impart a bit of "serious-ness" that first day of class!

I'd love to hear your thoughts! That said, please remember to be kind, and don't say anything your mother would not approve of!
